General Statement of Job Duties
This position is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, custodial, operational, and equipment‑related duties to support the daily operations and overall upkeep of the Water Filtration Plant and its facilities. Work involves maintaining plant buildings and grounds, operating and caring for equipment, assisting with general infrastructure repairs, and supporting plant operations to ensure all areas remain clean, safe, and functional.
- Grounds and Facility Maintenance
Duties include mowing and trimming grass, landscaping, maintaining ditches and drainage areas, removing leaves and debris, and caring for shrubs, turf, trees, and flowers throughout the facility. The employee also performs general outdoor cleanup and provides routine support for overall plant site maintenance. - Custodial Duties
Responsibilities include sanitizing and restocking restrooms, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, emptying trash, washing windows and walkways, and maintaining clean interior and exterior spaces. The employee also cleans office areas, maintains common spaces, deodorizes restrooms, moves furniture and equipment, and assists with ordering and restocking custodial supplies. - Maintenance and Equipment Operations
The employee operates and conducts routine maintenance on equipment such as blowers, mowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, saws, and similar tools used for grounds and facility upkeep. Additional tasks include assisting with basic repairs to building systems and infrastructure, including plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, HVAC support, electrical assistance, and cleaning or repairing storm drains and inlets located on plant property. - Operational Support
The position includes training to operate the plate and frame press used for residuals processing and providing support to the Maintenance Supervisor, Residuals Manager, plant operators, and other supervisory staff. Duties may involve assisting with mechanical, operational, and maintenance tasks as assigned.
The employee also responds to after‑hours emergencies as needed and performs other related tasks to support overall plant operations. Reports to the Filter Plant Superintendent.
Minimum Training & Experience
Minimum Training and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED
• Some experience in general maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial work, or equipment operation; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills
• Ability to safely operate basic equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, or similar tools
• Ability to learn and follow written and verbal instructions related to plant operations, maintenance tasks, and safety procedures
• Willingness to train in operation of a plate and frame press and other plant‑specific equipment
• Ability to obtain any required safety certifications or training after hire
Optional – Experience working at a water/wastewater plant
